Another rifle season has come and gone.  We had 6 weasels at camp this year for opening weekend including Larry,Gregg,Joel,Ryan,Brennen and Carter.  Since Gregg and I had been successful during bow season, we did not need additional venison, so we put restrictions on what we could shoot.  It had to be a very large 8, or bigger buck, with the exception of Brennen or Carter, who were allowed to shoot anything.  Unfortunately the only large buck we saw was on Friday afternoon, before season.  The boys didn't see a close doe, so we ended up shooting no additional deer, which was just fine.  The deer herd seemed down and there were only a few shots opening morning.  Gregg took Carson up the 2nd weekend and actually saw more deer than the 1st weekend.  Weather was extremely bad for the first time in several years.  Temperature hovered around 7 degrees both mornings of opening weekend and it was quite windy.  As always, success at deer camp isn't measured by the number of deer shot, but by the experiences it provided.  Since the pressure to kill was off, we spent more time socializing with our friends and neighboring deer camps.  Some great food and drinks were consumed, and all in all it was a very successful deer season at Camp Weasel.  All the venison we wanted and two more racks to hang on the wall.  Next up, Spring Turkeys or perhaps a ice fishing trip first, if the weather cooperates.  Until then, life is good, even better if you are a weasel.
