For the second time since we've had this site, I'm sitting down to write a story with vision slightly blurred.  We had to put our beloved Sammy down last Friday and it still hurts this morning.  Sammy was 13 1/2 and had been in poor health for a couple of years due to a respitory problem.  We  knew it was progressive and that it was just a matter of time,  but somehow that doesn't do much to relieve the pain I feel this morning.  Sammy wasn't the best hunting Lab we've had, but she was without a doubt the greatest pet and companion one could ever ask for.  She was so gentle and mild mannered with our children and grand children. I never once heard her growl at another person and only once heard her growl at another dog, who was bullying her. She was a good hunter and did a nice job on several trips to South Dakota and also was very instrumental in gettig Daffy hunting.  Her respitory problem was especially bad with temperatures above 70 degrees, and she really struggled during our 90 degree days last week.  Thusday afternoon she had a bad spell but came out of it later in the evening.  We were hopeful Friday would be better, but unfortunately she was worse in the morning.  She had trouble walking and began yelping in pain as she laid in the family room.  There was only one thing to do, we had to put her down. Jan and  took her out to the Vet together and stayed with her and comforted her till it was over. Rest in peace Sammy we love you and will never forget you.  Thanks for all the great memories and good times together.  I always end by saying life is good even better if your a weasel.  Can't say I feel that way this morning.
