We had four weasels and two weasel dogs in camp for this years rut hunt. Gregg, Ryan, Tom and myself along with Remi and Daffy made up our capable crew. The weather was good and the bucks tried to cooperate, but we just couldn't reduce one to possession. Gregg hit a 8 pointer and lost it and Ryan hit a spike and lost it. In addition, Gregg missed one, Ryan missed one and Tom missed one, so the opportunities were there. Yours truly was the only one not to get a shot. My stand just didn't have the action it has had in the past. This may be due to the fact that we have a very busy beaver on the pond by my stand and he may have forced the deer to change their routes due to flooded areas around the pond. At any rate this was the first time in probably 10 years that I haven't seen a buck off my stand. Saturday caused a little excitement with a bear in our woods. At one point Gregg thought it was going to come right up to him, but it turned at the last minute. All in all a great trip. We stopped at the Creek Friday after hunting and saw several friends we had been hoping to visit with. The steak dinners we had later that evening at County Line were excellent, as were the Old Fashions. Sunday morning after hunting, we put my new inclosed stand up, just off the logging road which runs thru our woods. I have high hopes to see a few deer off it in a couple of weeks. After seeing two 12 pointers and perhaps 6-8 lesser bucks, anticipation runs high for the up coming rifle seasaon. The pressure is on to put some meet in the freezer. Our rut hunt only confirmed that life is good and even better if your a weasel still holds true. Can't wait to get up to Camp again.
