Camp Weasel opened its annual rut hunt a week early this year due to the pending marriage of Weasel Jarrod this weekend. Weasels Larry,Gregg and Ryan hunted and Weasel Ashlyn came up for the meals. I actually didn't hunt as I did not want to shoot a doe. The boys saw quite a few deer and Gregg passed on a small fork Thursday night. Friday was quiet, but Saturday there was quite a bit of movement, but nothing close enough to shoot. On Sunday morning Gregg got a nice 6 pointer which completely takes the pressure off for rifle season. With the one I shot a few weeks ago and Greggs, plus the elk that Ryan shot out west, we have plenty of meat in the freezer. It will be trophy hunting only next week accept we gave Brennan permission to shoot whatever he wants. We had a chance to sample Ryans elk for lunch on Sat. and had corned venison Sat nite, so we ate well. Had a chance to visit with friends at the Creek and our good neighbor Danny, so we had a successful hunt. Next up, rifle season next weekend when we try to put a trophy on the wall. Until then, life is good, even better if you're a weasel.
