Rut Hunt a blowout

Weasels Larry, Charlie, Gregg and Tom converged on Camp Weasel Thursday night with high hopes of bagging a big one. We soon learned that the weather would not be cooperative. Winds in the 30 mile an hour with gusts in the 40s hung on for the entire 3 day hunt. Despite the weather we did see quite a few deer and had a couple of close encounters which could have just as easily went in our favor. Gregg had a few bucks come just about in range and Tom actually passed on a spike. I had a little fork horn which winded me just before stepping into range. Charlie saw a few early on but nothing close enough to shoot. Our neighbor Phil Kluge brought over pictures and the rack of a trophy he shot Thursday afternoon. A 10 pointer which will score about 160. He is having it mounted. It appears to be the same big one I caught on my trail camera in early Sept. As always the hunt was a success despite the fact we didn't shoot anything. Charlie did an excellent job on a couple of my S.D. pheasants for our Sat. night supper. We had a great time visiting with our friends at the Creek and the Badgers and Packers both won. We got our rifles sighted in for opening day in two weeks and generally got camp in shape for rifle season. There are still plenty of bucks out there, and judging from their activity this weekend they probably will still be rutting. Hopefully we reduce a couple to possession. The deep freeze is looking empty.
