I have to apologize for being a little late with the rut report. Seems like ever since I retired, I don't have enough time to get things done. We had a hardy eager group head up to camp this year. Weasels Larry, Gregg, Ryan, Joel W, and Tom. Unfortunately, the deer didn't cooperate/ I really thought we would have better luck than we did. Only one buck spotted and just a handful of does. However, as I've said many times, getting one is just the icing on the cake. We had a great time and made some camp improvements. A special "Thanks" goes out to Weasel Joel. HE has made many nice improvements to camp and really came through this year with some great new front steps. It sure is nice to have someone in camp who knows what they are doing. He and Ryan also got the buck pole back up. It had collapsed under the weight of Greggs buck a couple of weeks ago. Now if we could just get something to hang on it. One of the highlights of the trip was the black pot bellied pig which greeted Gregg and Joel when they arrived. We have no idea where it came from. I checked with our neighbor Dan and his wife and they were puzzled too. None of our friends at the creek could help either. Speaking of the Creek, the weasels really cleaned up on the meat raffle. Our table of 5 won 8 times. Speaking of food, as usual we ate well, the highlight being Weasel Joels treating us at County Line. A fair amount of liquor was consumed, with some of us (me), probably consuming too much. All in all a great trip with a tremendous group of hunters. We might just have to do it again next year. Next up rifle season. We need a couple more hanging on the buck pole. Until then, remember life is good, even better if you are a weasel.
