I decided to combine the deer seasons this year as rifle season started so close to rut this year. We had a terrible archery season this year. Weasels Larry, Gregg, Ryan, Carson and Tom all participated during the four trips to the cabin, but we ended up with nothing hanging on the buck pole. We had hoped Carson would connect during the Youth Hunt, but no such luck. Of course we still had a good season, with lots of good times and good food. We enjoy seeing our Indian Creek neighbors and friends, and nothing beats the Friday night Fish Fry at the Creek. Rifle season saw the same weasels converge on camp to try again. Weasel Joel was added to the group as he does not bow hunt. Good thing we added him, as he shot the only buck we got. He got him opening Sat afternoon.
A nice little 5 pointer around 4 in the aft. Once again we had a great hunt, with lots of memories and laughs. The closest I came to one was Sat morning. I was hunting the clearing behind the cabin and had sat from 7 to 10 without seeing anything. I decided to go in to the cabin and start the chili in the slow cooker, then go back and sit till the boys came in. As I put the chili in the cooker, I looked out the window and there stood a nice buck and a doe in front of my stand. Oh well, he'll be bigger next year. It was good to visit with neighbors Danny and Oscar and once again see the Roots, Hibb's , Marjorie and other friends at the Creek. I at least won a little meat at the meat raffle. Until next time, stay healthy and safe, and remember Life is good, even better if you're a weasel.
