Archery and Youth hunt Oct 6-8

Weasels Larry,Gregg,Ryan and Carson along with the Daffy dog, headed North to slay a few bucks. Apparently the bucks were not aware of the plan, as they failed to show up. We hunted hard Sat morning and no one got a shot. Very few deer were spotted. After lunch we headed to Indian Creek for the annual Turkey Shoot. We had a nice visit with our Creek friends, most of whom were working at the various booths . We cleaned up at the meat raffle winning 5 times and brought home the bacon so to say, as we all claimed bacon for our prizes. It was back to camp by 3:30 to once again pursue the wily whitetail. Carson was able to shoot a nubbin buck with his youth tag, but the rest of us went empty again. I showed him how to gut his buck, then we hung it to cool down. Sunday morning Gregg and Carson skinned it out and butchered it. I had a nice visit with our neighbors Danny and Alex, and they gave me some freshly canned applesauce and apple syrup made from Camp Weasel apples. I promised not to tell the deer they took them. After that, it was clean up and head home. Next trip will be the rut hunt in early Nov. Until then remember life is good, even better if you are a weasel.
