Rifle Season 2023

Dec 2, 2023
2 min read

Well another season has come and gone and I have to admit there are several disappointed weasels this year. Weasels Larry,Gregg,Ryan,Joel and Carson were all eager to shoot the big one opening morning. At the end of the first weekend, they were still all eager to shoot the big one. Despite seeing many nice bucks on the trail cameras all fall, they remained mostly nocturnal. A few were spotted at a distance, and Weasel Ryan did miss two. Sorry Ryan, just had to throw that in. lol. We had a nice opening weekend despite the lack of bucks and Weasel Jon paid us a non hunting visit and was able to participate in social activities and a trip to the Creek. Our second weekend of camp found Weasels Gregg,Ryan,Carson and Tom up to try their luck. It went slightly better this time, with Weasel Tom shooting a nice little fork horn off my stand Sat morning, Where was that little bastard the first weekend. The fork horn, not Tom. lol All in all it was a great season, we always say that we don't measure success by the number of deer shot, but by the fun and comradery enjoyed by all. We had a new TV this year for watching football and the meals and beverages were top notch as always. We had nice vists with our neighbors Danny and Alex and Oscar and Harlan. As always the trips to the Creek gave us the chance to visit with our friends the Roots , Welches, Peales, Hibbs Denvers and anyone else I might have missed. We've established such nice relationships with our Indian Creek friends. Almost forgot to mention Marjorie who runs the show at the Creek and provides the meat raffle and excellent fish fry..I can't close without mentioning the untimely loss of Weasel Joel Westerfeld whose friendship and sense of humor will be forever missing from our camp outings. Total archery and rifle kill was 3 bucks, down from an average of 5 or 6. Already looking forward to next year. life is good, even better if you're a weasel.
